This is our story in starting our very own family through international adoption. We will be adopting an infant (or two) from Kazakhstan. Hopefuly we will be traveling this spring to meet and bring home our little one(s). We hope that by reading our story you are able to follow our journey and learn about the process of adoption.

We have a court date…

Well the powers that be have decided that while we have been granted a wonderful baby boy, a great ethical agency and wonderful friends, that time is just expected to go very slowley for us while we are here. We can not guess the reasons and we are trying very hard to trust the process yet we were told today that court will not be until Next Monday!!! This means another week of waiting. So once again we have asked to stay in our apartment longer, until Sunday, so that we can keep our heads financialy above water.

We did at least find out that tomorrow we can take our baby boy to get his passport pictures so that this process can get started. I can’t wait to see how he handles the car. It should be an interesting trip. So here is our new schedual: We will have court on Monday, then fly to Almaty on Wednesday the 6th. John will fly home ASAP so he can get back for work, and I will fly on the 12th or 13th. It will be a long trip but we are ready for it. I could really go for some Mexican or Thi food about now and just the comforts of home, but pretty much the Judge here does not care about what I could go for. I am very sorry to the Seattle crowd about the “comming home part.” I hope it is not too much of a pain to postpone it. I e-mailed Josylyn the details.

As soon as I am done at the internet cafe we are going with friends to the park and the river to go swimming. I am very excited as I have been wanting to do this for a while. After thre river we are goning to a party for one of the peace corps volunteers who is leaving soon. It should be a lot of fun and will hopefuly make the days until our son is officialy ours go a little quicker.

Thanks also for the news from home. I it seems so far away and it is even a little bit hard to imagine. Is anyone from Dayville still following along? Rachel, I am sorry I missed the concert to. I will just have to make up for it next year when you are even that much better! Didgett, I am intruged to find out what you mean, but hey I am sure you would be a great mentor for me in a new area:) Also, Hiedi if you are reading along, as much as John hated to miss Memorial Weekend he did make it a point to rent a boat and float on the Ural River on Saturday. Not quite the same as home, but soon enough he will be back for work.

Well that is not what we hoped for, but it is an answer and now you can start planning. Do you have an idea when you would be back in Dayville then?? Of course, the substitute Grandma's need to know:-) We pray that the baby does well traveling and so does Mama.
Love,

We are all still reading every day, and from the sounds of it the pre-court has said that Baby Bug is yours!!! Hoping you can still arrange to fly back with the other mom and her daughter...and hoping that he likes to nap on the jet!!!I wonder if every family goes through this long of a stay (they're just trying to get more American dollars into their economy, eh)!!! Summer is here pretty much, warm days, cool nights, and all that green everywhere! Be at Peace with the process, we still have you surrounded with all that light, pray the journey is short, safe, and the final outcome will just make all those weeks fade into the distance! We think we are ready to "shower" this baby when he gets home!!!

Karon and John,

Many of us here in Dayville have been keeping up with your blog and we talk about you all often. We miss you and can't wait for you to get home with "Baby Bug". However, we understand the process is slow and are patiently waiting your return.

We had dinner the other night at the cafe with Tom. I think he is missing you too. He was in good spirits and has been doing lots of work in Sisters lately.

Keep us posted as you can. It has been wonderful to be able to share this experience with you.

Lots of love,

Kendall and Amy

Karen,

We had the same thing happen while in Uralsk in Oct. The judge took a vacation and it held us up for a week. Yulia was great at trying to comfort me!!!!! Enjoy your long time there because when you get home, it flies by. I will lift you and your fmaily in prayers and know God is in control. It is hard to know what it is like over there when you are not in control of ANYTHING....

Keep on keepin' on! Things always happen for a reason, and you have been in many prayers, so believe that whatever happens is what's best. You are experiencing something similar to what I went through to get my first child here--he arrived 3 weeks AFTER the expected date! That was before ultrasound and high tech pregnancies, and we just had to wait 'er out! As it turned out, he wasn't late--perhaps a bit early, as a matter of fact--and thirty years later, I know that it didn't matter much WHEN he got here but that he DID get here! I can feel your desire to get back home and get him settled in as you become a family, and we're all praying that you will be covered with God's grace and mercy as you travel. Be sure that you tell your little guy often while he is growing up that he has the VERY special place of making your family complete, that without HIM, you just weren't a family! Take care--lots of love from "Grandma B"!
