The Decker's Adoption Journey

This is our story in starting our very own family through international adoption. We will be adopting an infant (or two) from Kazakhstan. Hopefuly we will be traveling this spring to meet and bring home our little one(s). We hope that by reading our story you are able to follow our journey and learn about the process of adoption.

Happy Birthday to John!

We have now moved into our new (old) apartment. It is ok and when ever we feel like complaining we add up how much money we are saving and just laugh at all of the quirks. Like last night we had the pleasure of listening to really loud Russian television and of hearing our young neighbors play their instruments and sing in the courtyard.

We are still not sure what we will do for John's special day. Maybe we will just have to celebrate once we are home.

It is nice to see that you found the site Doug and Cindy thanks for sharing information with the kids at school. I think of them often and I hope that they are doing well.

We brought our daughter, Emily, home from BH2 on Feb. 7 and she was 8 mos. old and born 2 1/2 months premature. She is now almost a year old and still developmentally about where an 8-9 month old would be. We are taking her to physical therapy to limber her up a bit.

Some things to try with Baby Bug if his legs are a bit stiff...
• flex the ankles and try to make sure he's flat-footed when you stand him up.
• sit him on your thigh or leg when sitting on the floor and put toys on the floor in front of him... this gets him to bend down a little further and stretch those muscles
• our daughter sits straight-legged on the floor so we have to remind her to tuck her feet up towards her body when sitting... sort of like "indian stlyle" it also helps her find her balance and stretch better for toys
• Every time we change her we are also supposed to help twist her body so that left leg crosses over to right side of her body and vice versa... this is also a fun floor game for her

Keep those exercises up! It makes a huge difference and you'll see Baby Bug making progress faster than you ever expected. Spitting up was routine for our daughter too... until we backed off on how much they were feeding her. She's still only about 17 pounds and will be 1 year on Monday.

I wouldn't trade all the hard work or time spent in Uralsk for anything. Be sure to keep taking lots of pictures... we miss it so much now that we're back home and I imagine you will too especially since you've made so many friends already!

Take care and be blessed!

Well, it looks like I jumped the gun on clothing. Looks like Baby Bug will be too big for the things I got:-) That is great he is now growing so much quicker. We have friends who are having a grandson in September so I will save these things for him and I will get to go shopping again:-)
Haapy Birthday to John and happy coming up Mother's Day to Karon.
We will see pictures of the apartment??
Give Baby Bug hugs and kisses for us.
Love,

Happy Birthday John! We hope you had a great day. We are glad the baby is growing well. One of the reasons is all the love he is getting. Wish that you could have had him all day for John's birthday. Ava Elena is now crawing and her hair is reddish blond and curly. She is finally gaining weight after her 3 month illness, She had pneumonia and bronchialitis and rsv. She is now eating well and smiling all the time as long as you don't take her away from Jean. When Jean leaves the room she is fine. You are going to have such adventures with your little one and you have already started. Take pictures, keep a journal. We love you. Mom and Don
